Mara Brock Akil is the supreme television producer to some of your favorite television shows over the years.
Mara was born as Mara Dionne Brock in Los Angeles, California but raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Mara was one of 11 children, according to The Hollywood Reporter.com. She studied Journalism at Northwestern University, according to Medill.Northwestern.edu.
According to IMDB.com, Mara's TV credits include Moesha, The Jamie Foxx Show, and Cougar Town. Her own created shows include Girlfriends and the spinoff show The Game, of which the two were co-executive produced with Kelsey Grammar. Her newest television creation is titled Being Mary Jane.
Mara is married to television/movie director Salim Akil. Salim directed Bishop T.D. Jakes' film Jumping the Broom and teamed up with Mara on many of the projects for The Game. They also teamed up to write and direct Bishop T.D. Jakes' Sparkle starring the late Whitney Houston.
Mara and Salim have a production company called Akil Productions located in Los Angeles. The company's quote from the website reads "...passionately works to develop and produce authentic programming meant to entertain and unify through sharing human experiences".
